Family,
I was thinking about Chris Tucker in Rush Hour when he said: “Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth!” So many times we say things that don’t produce understanding. Proverbs 18:21 (AMP) reads: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].. Question: Did you know that there is a bible verse holding us accountable to what is in our mouth? If life is in your mouth then applying Matthew 12:37 (AMP) to your prayer would be a blessing but if death is in your mouth, let’s read what Matthew said: For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.
No criticism here intended, as I am just as accountable to this truth as any other believer along with the words that come out of my mouth. I cannot make these bible verses up and we are told many times to watch our mouth, look at what the half brother of Jesus said in James 3:8-9 (AMP): But the human tongue can be tamed by no man; it is restless (undisciplined, irreconcilable) evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who were made in God’s likeness. After reading that, I wanted to crawl under a rock realizing that too often death was in my mouth and not life. In 2010 it became real to me. If I want life in my own situation I must speak life, so what is good, noble, right, worthy of talking about like Paul encouraged the Philippians in verse 4:8; but if we speak death, talking negatively, complaining, murmuring, lying...are we doing what James said?
For a while I studied and quoted the verses above and even heard others say it. However, as I read the Proverb slowly, it says something so interesting. “And they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].” I had to ponder on this part of the passage for a few days.
Does that mean we have to eat our own words, how is that possible? Eventually your words will become your reality. In a world where there is so much to digest, you have to ask yourself, what is in my mouth! I am telling you today: Don’t say that about yourself. Stop caring about what people say about you. Start praying. When God is in your life ,He has the final and last say. He is Omniscient (all-knowing), Omnipotent (all-powerful) and Omnipresent (all-present). Now let us be careful as married couples, friends, children, cousins, uncles, aunts, parents, saints/believers of God - extremely careful because we will eat the fruit of our lips.
Love your sister in Christ,
Latoya
A letter from John -
Dear children,
Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. Sincerely, 1 John 3:18 (NIV)
